Drama Decides Point Champs At The Creek

It was championship night at Deer Creek Speedway this week. Several point titles were up for grabs on the final night for track points. A couple of the titles were decided in dramatic fashion. In the end four of the five champions captured their first titles.

Another huge field of 128 cars descended on the speedway. The show was presented by Kibble Equipment, Randy & Sandy Norby, Wagner Trucking, Pedal & Play Sports and First Supply had a big gathering for a company outing. This night was also the year end party for the Kid’s Club.

Extra money was up for grabs when Kibble Equipment added a $100 bonus to each feature winner. Also local race fan Ray Winkels added an extra $100 to the USRA B-Mod winner. Randy & Sandy Norby added a $100 hard charger bonus in each class also.

The Dirt Doctor Trucking WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds brought 35-cars that were trimmed down to a 24-car field for their feature run. Coming into the night Don Schaefer led Jason Haugerud by 26-points for the championship battle.

Cole Anderson led the early laps with Spencer Stock and Haugerud racing for second. Haugerud got to second with Alex Williamson to third. Williamson then shot past Haugerud on lap three for second. Tyler Werner spun on to trigger a yellow on lap four.

Ryan Wetzstein got to fourth on the start while Williamson made quick work of Anderson and took the lead on lap 5. Wetzstein then challenged Haugerud for third and took the spot away on lap six.

Meanwhile while most of the pack ran the top side, 16th starter Liz Toepper ran the bottom and picked off car after car. Toepper was going good and cracked the top five and then passed Haugerud for fourth with a few laps to go.

Williamson checked out while Wetzstein and Anderson were at it for second. Williamson crossed the line first for his first win of the season. Eyes then focused on Toepper who closed rapidly on the battle for second.

As the checkered flag waved, Toepper stormed to the inside of both Wetzstein and Anderson and crossed the line in second place for her best finish. Toepper also took the hard charger award. Wetzstein finished third with Anderson and Haugerud in the top five.

Haugerud’s fifth place finish and Schaefer struggling to finish 18th shook up the point title chase. Haugerud would take the point championship by a mere two points for his first track title.

The Adams Graphix WISSOTA Street Stock point title was also up for grabs. Blake Adams led Nick Schwebach by 11-points when they started their 18-lap feature.

However Danny Richards would steal the show and lead all 18-laps for his second win in a row. Schwebach’s chance for a point championship pretty much ended on lap three when he was involved in a three car incident that sent all three cars to the tail.

Blake Adams would work to second and tried to challenge Richards but just could not muster up enough to make the pass. Adams would finish there to take his first track title. Zach Elward would finish third with Kory Adams and Ryan Jacobsen in the top five. Kory Adams earned the $100 hard charger bonus.

It has high drama in the race for the track title for the National Fleet Graphics USRA B-Mods. Kadden Kath came into the night just three points ahead of Jim Chisholm. J.T. Wasmund stormed to the lead from the outside of row one and took off.

But a caution on lap two sent Kath to the work area with a flat tire and things looked bleak for him in the championship chase. Kath got his tire changed in time and rejoined the race at the tail of the pack.

Wasmund led with Trevor Fecht and A.J. Zvorak second and third. Jerry Young was strong on the restart and zipped past Zvorak. Jared Boumeester started 16th and was now in the top five and challenged Zvorak for fourth.

Wasmund checked out while Young got by Fecht for second and Boumeester was up to fourth. Meanwhile Kath picked off car after car trying desperately to get back up front. Boumeester got by Fecht for third on lap 11 and then Zvorak spun on lap 12 and the caution came out.

Boumeester took second on the start and Chisholm entered the top five. Chisholm got to fourth and then worked past Young for third. Kath was up to eighth and was on a mission. Young got back past Chisholm and Kath was now sixth.

Wasmund got his second win in a row with Boumeester second. Boumeester’s stellar run also earned him the hard charger bonus. Young would finish third with Chisholm fourth. Kath charged past Shaun Walski on the final lap to finish fifth.

That last lap pass by Kath earned him enough points to come back and tie Chisholm for the point title. The USRA tie-breaker is feature wins and Kath would get the title with three wins to Chisholm’s zero. After the race Kath had requested that the points remain a tie and after verifying with USRA Kath and Chisholm will both be champions.

The Brauer Roofing WISSOTA Super Stocks would get their ninth different winner in 12 shows this season. Ryan Wiome would lead from row one but Brandon Duellman passed Schatney Sanders for second and then tried to get Wiome.

Duellman used the low groove to take the lead on lap seven. Jesse Redetzke raced Sanders for third on lap eight while Wiome challenged Duellman for the lead. Tommy Richards entered the picture in fourth and the lead quintet was close.

Redetzke got to second and then made slight contact with Wiome for the lead. That allowed Duellman to get back to the lead on lap 16. Wiome would steal the lead back on lap 18 with Tommy Richards up to make it a three car race. A yellow would set up a green, white, checkered dash to the finish.

Wiome would win which was his first win at the speedway. Richards would finish in second and Neil Eckhart would come up late to third. Duellman was fourth and Redetzke was fifth. Richards received the $100 hard charger bonus.

Jeff Brauer finished sixth and earned enough points to claim his seventh track title. Brauer also won the King Of The Creek title for the second year in a row which he will pocket $1000 for that. Brauer did all of that despite not winning a single feature race. For him that ended a streak of

10-straight years with at least one win.

The Napa Auto Care Centers USRA Modifieds had another doozy of a feature run. The point championship was decided last week with Nate Wasmund earning his first title.

Jacob Dahle got the jump on Josh Angst from row one to take the early lead. Jake Timm slipped past Darwyn Karau for fourth and then raced Dustin Sorensen for third. Dahle checked out early on but Timm was on the move to third on lap four.

Angst reeled in Dahle and caught him on lap seven. Angst ran the rim and made the pass and Timm came to second one lap later. Kevin Stoa was on the charge from 14th and was up to fourth. Dustin Sorensen and Brad Waits were right with Stoa and had a good race going.

Stoa got by Dahle for third on lap 10 and Waits got fourth on lap 12. Back up front Timm gained on Angst and now Waits was right with Stoa for third on the 13th circuit. Waits would make the pass one lap later as things heated up for the lead.

On lap 17 the race was on for the lead when Timm dove low and Angst ran the top. They went side-by-side on lap 18 with Timm scored the leader at the end of the lap. Angst fired right back and took the lead again on lap 19. Timm mounted another charge and took the lead back on lap 21.

But Angst was not to be denied and shot back out front on lap 22. Angst led the final three laps to score his first win this season. Timm finished second and Waits was third. Stoa’s fine run ended in fourth and that also got him the hard charger award. Dustin Sorensen would round out the top five at the finish.
